What is personal training?
& Why do I need a consultation, before we can work together?
Personal Training styles will vary from one trainer to the next, but the one thing that remains the same, is that it is PERSONAL. This means that your trainer should be writing workout programs, designed specifically for you. Writing plans & making adjustments as needed to things like,
Frequency
Intensity
Tempo ( time under tension)
Rest
Exercise selection
Sets & Reps
Volume
The Information I gather at the consultation & during the assessment, will give me enough insight to create a structured, balanced, & safe training program, for the package that you purchased.
Personal training sessions are very different from a typical fitness class. There simply is just more attention to detail, emphasizing the breakdown of movements, & clear explanation of why you’re doing what you’re doing.
(Communication is key with your trainer, you are paying for a service customized to you.
At Forever The Journey Fitness we place a huge emphasis on completing your weekly check in so we can make adjustments based on your recovery, experience, and preferences.)
I’m going to provide 2 different scenarios of 2 clients with very different goals, that will provide different outcomes. One is not better than the other, this is for educational purposes to explain how certain variable’s effect the outcome of your programming!
Keep in mind that what is different about the programming created between these two clients, is the variables listed above! Scenario 1 is a beginner, just learning to utilize the gym, It is important to build stabilization through-out the body in the first phase, before adjusting too many variables. Scenario 2 has some experience but needs extra advice on how to better reach their fat-loss goals, while assuring they have the stability to preform exercises at the intensity & volume necessary to get them to where they want to be.
Scenario 1
If you come to your trainer expressing that you are unsure how to use any of the equipment, have no previous exercise experience, & are looking to build upper body strength with an assessment that shows you have highly underactive glutes & core, expression of a 5/10 fat loss importance, & purchased 1, 45min session a week for 4 weeks. You might expect to be spending more of your session learning proper form & mobility, while encompassing a full body program (although they expressed a priority in building upper body strength, they also suggested that fat loss is a goal for them as well. Building strength in large muscle groups, i.e. muscle of the legs will help to change their metabolism resulting in overall fat loss.) with variety in exercises, & an emphasis on upper body strength. Setting you up for success when going to the gym without your trainer.
The beginning phase of this training session will feel slower paced.
Each phase can last between 1-3 months, depending on individual preference & progress!
Scenario 2
If you come to your trainer, with previous exercise experience & a clear goal of Fat-loss, while exercising on your own, or with a trainer 2-4 times a week. The exercises created for you will be different in some ways to scenario 1.
For example, you have been exercising on your own in the gym for over a year and are familiar with the equipment & and environment, their strength has increased a lot, but need help loosing body fat after reaching a plateau. Your trainer will likely create sessions of higher intensity, while adjusting rest times, with less time on exercise education, (because they have shown they can perform exercises correctly, & only need minor adjustments to form along the way).
The beginning phase of this training session will start out strong, but all good programs will circle back once a month to focus on stabilization, & implementing more through out as needed.
Why do I need to book a free consultation with you, before I can purchase a training program?
During the first phase of the free fitness consultation, we will go over your health history, exercise readiness, & personal goals. This is where I am able to learn more about your daily life, & how that impacts your exercise experience, & body mechanics.
We will sign contracts to ensure everyone’s safety, & set expectations, so everyone is comfortable! Fitness should be fun, It’s important to get all the details out of way so we’re on the same page & I can provide you with the services you expect!
Not only is it fun to get to know you, while learning more about your career & hobbies, but learning the reason WHY you’re starting this Journey helps me customize this experience, ENSURE your safety, & walk along WITH YOU.
The second phase of the consultation is where the physical assessment takes place. I will assess your body mechanics through static & dynamic movements, that tell me more about any muscles that are either under or over active. This helps me learn what types of exercises I should prioritize, creating a safe and effective program, while prioritizing your goals, & improving muscular balance.
Finally, we reach the third phase of the consultation. Giving you time to ask any questions like, “How do I adjust this machine?”, to a quick briefing on form. You can also use this time, to discuss pricing, packages, & ask for help navigating our website, booking training sessions, or making payments.
Sincerely,
